A Calm or a Hyperactive Cat?
As welcoming a cat into your home will most likely change your everyday life, it is important to consider what kind of personality you want your new cat to have. Some cats really are hyperactive with strong hunting instincts and are perhaps less suitable for apartment or city. Others enjoy being with people constantly and will be content to lie in your lap whenever it is available. These cats can be perfect for elderly cat-lovers who are home a lot and would love the company.
Here are some cats that are known for being either very calm or very active!
Himalayan
The personality of a Himalayan is very gentle and loyal. They are very good companion-cats and love to lie in your lap and sleep on your pillow. At the same time though, they are full of personality and really want company. You may notice your Himalayan following you around the house wanting your attention!
Persian
Persians are by some described as ‘decorative cats’ but this is only partly true. They love to doze in a favourite s
pot and spend hours relaxing. But they also want your attention. As with Himalayans, Persians are sweet-tempered and gentle. Additionally, both Himalayans and Persians are gentle and patient with children and other pets.
American Wirehairs
Quite the opposite of the gentle-minded Persians, American Wirehairs have a strong but affectionate temperament! They love to play and will probably follow you around the house, wanting to start a game. They might become quite over exuberant at times so it is best to keep an eye on them if they are with small children. Although they are very people-loving, sometimes their instincts may take over and their playfulness will become a little too rough and real.
Abyssinian
If your home could use an action cat, you should consider getting an Abyssinian! They are not exactly content with
sitting on a windowsill and looking decorative but will instead use your whole home as their dedicated play and hunting ground. They are not really fans of being cuddled and if you pick one up, you might find that they have more than the average amount of elbows and claws! However, they are not anti-social at all. They enjoy being included in your everyday life and are especially affectionate at dinnertime…
Bobtails
Perhaps you would prefer something in between? Bobtails are very playful end energetic and are also have the exceptional ability of escaping from closed rooms. They are very people oriented and after being adventurous and playing for a while they are happy to cuddle up in a lap. On the cat commotion-scale, with the Persian as a calm ’1′ and the Abyssinian as a vigorous ’10′, the Bobtail rates perhaps ’8′. They are fun-loving and active but not overactive.
Of course, any of these cats can be exceptions to the norm – cats each have their own unique characteristics and personalities!
