Training your feline for car rides
If you are going for a car ride with your cat and your cat does not feel comfortable in the car, it can be stressful for both of you. However, you can teach your little feline to enjoy car rides.
When you are going on longer car rides or vacations your cat needs to enjoy the car ride so it doesn’t get worried and start jumping all over the seats. The first step you have to take is to buy a suitable pet carrier. It is very important that you pick a carrier that your feline will like and that is easy to carry around. After you bought the carrier your mission will be teaching the cat to like it, so a good idea is to place the carrier in the cat area for a couple of days so the cat can investigate and get used to it. Then you can put your cat’s favorite toy in it so the cat explores the carrier. Once your cat has gone inside, immediately start with small treats and rewards.
When the cat is really comfortable in the carrier you can close and lock the door. Next step is to pick up the carrier and carry the cat gently around the house. To get your cat comfortable do this for a several times a day, for a few days.
When it is time for the first car ride, drive around a calm area with the cat beside you. You can play some music to make your cat relax and you should also talk to the cat and calm him down. If the cat gets scared during the ride, stop and make your feline relax. It is vital that you bring treats on the ride to inform the cat that he is behaving well. Do not yell or do anything to startle the cat, as your cat will have a fear of the pet carrier.
Have patience and practise a lot with your cat, and you will be able to have a wonderful vacation with your cute kitty.
