Jumping down on myths
Cats have always been clouded in myths or stereotypes. The mythology surrounding cats started with the Egyptians who considered the domestic cat to be ‘god like’ and depicted one of their most revered goddesses, Bast, as a cat.
Cultures from around the world, such as the Nordic and even some Islamic cultures, have treated their cats like deities or mythological creatures, like the Sphinx.
Myths today are not as common; the most popular ones being that cats have nine lives or always land on their feet.
Since we technically shouldn’t test these old wives tales by simply dropping our cat from great heights, there are organisations like the Cat Fancier’s Association that help debunk common myths.
Cat World is another great site that exposes some other well known myths. If you know any other myths that you believe in, I’d love to hear them!
