Deep Down We're All Cats

milo2Dogs have taken centre stage in many films as man’s best friend, who doesn’t know the name Lassie after all? What about the other beloved furry friend? That’s right, our felines deserve the spotlight too, and although the films focused on their lives aren’t as abundant, there are a few classics out there that show us another side of our favourite pals.

Originally filmed in Japan as Koneko Monogatari, the Western adaptation of the film, released as The Adventures of Milo & Otis, follows the life of a curious orange tabby cat as he befriends an unlikely companion, a pug named Otis. They grow up together on the farm and become partners in crime. They embark upon an adventure of a lifetime as Milo floats away downstream while playing in a crate down river. Ever the faithful sidekick, Otis trails after his feline friend, and somehow ends up behind Milo at every adventure.

Milo proves to live up to his moggie myth with surviving many near death experiences. He comes across a few bears in the woods, is mobbed by seagulls, escapes from a raven-infested Deadwood Swamp, then escapes another bear before fending off a snake. However, this last adventure winds up with Milo trapped in a hole, with no apparent rescuer in sight.

If you don’t want to know if Milo makes it, and the pair ever reunites, rent the movie and stop reading now. Otis finally catches up to his pal and rescues him by pulling him out with rope. The old friends don’t stay united for long, as they meet their mates and separate to raise their young families. However, true friendship survives anything, and these two buddies can’t seem to stay apart for long. They reunite and finally find their way home to the barn they grew up in, and live together, helping each other raise their growing families.

You can’t help but get caught up in the devoted friendship seen between the two unlikely pals. These two prove dogs and cats really can be friends. All those people who say animals don’t have feelings ought to watch this movie. Although it is just a movie, the personalities you see in Milo and Otis are sure to parallel your real life pal.

For any cat lover, this movie is a must-see. The daredevil Milo will capture your heart with his loveable personality. Otis is the perfect devoted sidekick to his danger-prone pal. Cat lovers of any age will appreciate this timeless tale of friendship and adventure.

Afterall, as Milo says to Otis when they first meet, “All right, a dog, I understand, but…deep down inside, we’re all cats, right?”

Watch a funny moment from Milo and Otis’s adventures. The come across a rather crabby new friend!
