Surviving a Dog Attack!

My old cat Milo, who has just turned 16 was viciously attacked by two dogs while he was sleeping in the front garden. I was not home at the time, but my next door neighbour saw the whole thing and saved Milo's life. My neighbour fought off the two dogs risking life and limb and they ran off down the street. When he turned around Milo was gone. I came home a short time later and found my beloved puss lying prone in the middle of the cul-de-sac. He was breathing heavily and his eyes were open and his tongue was hanging out of his mouth.

I thought that he had been run over. I picked him up carefully and carried him inside, he was very distressed. Then I found a note on my door about the dog attack. I phoned the animal hospital (it was a Friday night) and the vet said to bring him straight over. Luckily, the vet is just around the corner from where we live. Milo spent three day in hospital, he had lots of bite marks and a crushed pelvis. (He was attacked by another older cat when he was a little kitten and had a broken pelvis from that attack). Because of the previous attack, he's never been very agile and he wouldn't have the abilty to run away from the dogs. He's never been able to climb up trees etc. like our other cat.

He was traumatised after the attack and not expected to survive, but he did! He started eating after three days and it took a while for him to be able to walk again. He still walks with a limp and probably always will. We are so grateful that we still have him. He's survived two vicious attacks on his own home property.

He looks really old now since the attack as he's lost a lot of weight. The whole family is so relieved that he's okay we don't want him to die like that!

Hi Walclan,

Thank you for sharing your story with us. We are glad to hear that Milo is ok now!

Hopefully things are less eventful for Milo in 2010. Take care.
