Training your Cat to use Kitty Litter
I am sure that you love and adore your little cat, but sometimes they can have some irritating habits such as making puddles indoors. Cats can be naughty sometimes, but with proper training you can overcome your cat’s need to use the bathroom anywhere they please. Read on for some simple tips on training your cat to use their kitty litter.
When you are training your feline to use the litter tray, it is important that you don’t punish or yell at your cat if they don’t behave properly. Punishing your cat could make them scared, and the bad behaviour is likely to continue as they don’t know what they’re meant to do instead. Instead, it is best to reinforce good behaviour by rewarding your cat when they perform well.
It is important that the cat training starts correctly and as early as possible. Whenever you see that your kitten is sniffing in a corner or is getting ready to crouch, pick him up and put him in the litter box, as these are normal signs of approaching defecation or urination.
The first thing you should do in the morning is to put your cat in the litter box to encourage youe cat to use it. You should also clean the kitty litter tray at least once a week as your cat may stop using it when it is dirty. Make sure that the litter tray is cleaned often and the litter is changed completely.
Don’t let your cat run free in the house before the litter training is totally complete. If they accidentally urinate or defecate on the floor, put their food bowl next to that spot as a cat will never mess where they eat. This will make this spot ‘off limits’.
When training your cat, always remain patient and positive. If you maintain a consistent training schedule your efforts won’t be wasted and you’ll have a pleasant, well trained cat who uses their kitty litter tray. Do you have any more tips for kitty litter training?
