Catwalk, literally

Cats strutted their way down the runway in a feline fashion show held at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City this past month. The show raised money for an animal shelter and honored Matilda, the Algonquin’s resident cat. Following the cat theme of the night, cocktails with names such as “Purr-tini” were served alongside the show for $20.

The tradition of dubbing a house cat started in the 1930’s and Matilda has been the ninth cat since the tradition started. The feline fashion show was held on her birthday. The cats were dressed in costumes. One sported the Elvis look while others were more poised in sequined satin dresses.

Like all fashion shows, only certain cats made the cut. The Westchester Feline Club provided the “show-quality” cats and pet fashion company Meow Wear supplied the costumes.

There may not be a feline fashion show anytime soon in Australia, but you can always pamper your cat. Check out Pet Zympatico, an Australian based company that provides a variety of clothes and accessories for cats.
