Hi Carol,

Thank you for your comment.

Profender treats the most common forms of Tapeworm in cats. Profender is a worm 'flusher' - it kills worms present at the time of application but has no residual effect.

The flea tapewom can re-infect, and segments can reappear in the faeces within 2-3 weeks of treatment. There is also a rare tapeworm that can infect cats that are hunters and eat cockroaches, lizards, frogs or birds. This is the Zipper Tapeworm (Spirometra). This tapeworm is not killed by Profender.

If your outdoor cat is still passing tapeworm segments in his faeces, please have the worms identified and treated by your veterinarian.

Kind Regards,

Cornelius and the team at Cat Diaries

I have used Profendor on one of our inside cats and it worked by that evening. I recently used it on our outside cat but he still is showing tapeworms, even after about two weeks. Does he need another dose?

Dear Dick,

Thank you for your post.

Profender is a worming treatment only, so you will need to use a separate Flea Treatment product such as Advantage or Advocate to control fleas. Descriptions for both these products can be found on our website at Bayer Animal Health by going to the following link : http://www.bayeranimal.com.au/

Dear Renee,
Thank you for your post.
Advocate treats cats against roundworms and hookworms but not tapeworms. Profender protects cats against roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. Therefore if your cat is at risk of developing tapeworm infestations (if your cat hunts rodents, amphibians and reptiles) then it is advisable that your cat is treated monthly with Advocate and 3-monthly with Profender. If your cat is not at risk of developing tapeworm infestations then Advocate monthly is all that is required.
Kind Regards,
Cornelius and the team at Cat Diaries

We would not recommend using Profender or any animal product on a human. Instead, we would recommend identifying the type of bugs and parasites involved then advising her to visit her doctor for the best treatment advice. We would also suggest speaking to a pest controller that can spray her house and car to help control these bugs and parasites.

I have a friend who is infested with various types of bugs and parasites. She has tried everything there is to get rid of them. Can you put Profender on a human? Her house and car are full of bugs, too. Doyou have any idea what could getrid of them?

In the past I've often had a problem getting this or any medication for my cats 'without a consultation' but it's worth shopping around for if you don't want to order online
